15 players took part in the August meeting at Oakridge Park. It was another successful day and the winner with 44 points was U3A Treasurer David Teasdale. Needless to say his handicap will be cut for the next meeting!!!

The September meeting will be at Weston Turville Golf Club from 11 am on Monday 13th. Places are available if anyone wants to join us.

The October meeting will be on the 11th at Harewood Downs but places here are limited

Good golf to everyone

Many thanks to both Robin and Andrew for the prompt suggestions.

The DIY route suggested by Robin sounds simple as I still have the manual from Dell clearly showing the steps. But I am hesitant to do it just in case things don't work out right.

I will proceed with contacting Geoff Smith suggested by Andrew, and will let you know the outcome in due course.

Hi Josefina,
If you still want a local IT tech then I can recommend Geoff Smith of PC Xperts. His number is 01494 785672 and he works from home in Chesham.

This group was suggested after Charles Ainger's talk on 21st April 10 and a few people have registered an interest.  However there are already active local groups in Amersham, Chesham, Chalfonts, High Wycombe, Marlow etc. with running programmes and would welcome new members.  We suggest that anyone interested should join them.  This will avoid too many small groups overlapping.  Here are the websites:

I suggest buying a matched pair from crucial memory. Its mail order using your web browser.

http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Dimension%208300%20Series&pl=Dell&cat=RAM

2GB kit (1GBx2)  Part #: CT441222 • DDR PC3200 £76.36

They do an install guide http://www.crucial.com/uk/install/dimm.aspx

Thus you could do it yourself.

( The main thing is to never let your fingers touch the gold coloured contacts at the bottom of the chips. The normal mechanical rule applies, that things don't need forcing. If it won't go in, take it out, look for the notch that only allows it to go in one way round, and then put it in again. )

Guru's PC is in need of attention. Can anyone recommend a reliable local IT technician or shop who can add extra RAM on the PC?

Background: A Dell Dimension 8300 PC, bought in Jan 2004, with 2 X 256 MB memory. The McAfee virus checker (BT Net Protect Plus) offered with BT Yahoo now apparently needs lot more memory and the internet access has become painfully slow. There are two spare expansion slots which could be fitted with 2 x 1Gb memory.
