In this group everyone brings a book, (fiction or non-fiction) to the meeting that they want to recommend to the rest of the group. In turn each member talks, for up to 10 minutes, about their book giving a short summary of the themes of the book, and then what made it interesting and worth reading. Other members of the group then comment if they have read the book, or maybe another book by the same author. Perhaps members name other books of the same genre that they like. We might even get diverted, for a short time, onto the subject of the book. However, we do try to keep the discussion relevant.
No extra reading work for this book group. You have already read it. The only extra preparation needed from you is thinking what to say to the Group about your book. However, you now know about books you would otherwise not have read, or perhaps not thought of read. However, you are not forced to read an entire a book even that you know you dislike. That point is often cited as the advantage of a normal book group but it equally applies to this group
The group has a limit of 14 so everyone can participate fully if they so wish. I will keep a waiting list so let me know if you wish to join us but the group is full at the moment. The group is complementary to a normal Book Group so you may or may not, also belong to another normal Book Group.
We will meet on the Second Monday of the month every 2 months. We meet next on Monday 14th September and then on the Monday 9th November.
